WHAT CAN YOU DO? #5

Step 1:

Tell students they will be asked to think of things they could do to reduce the amount of trash.

Step 2:

Explain the 3 R's.

REDUCE the amount of trash you make by buying products that will last a longer time, and by buy products with the least amount of packaging.

REUSE as many products as you can by, for instance, buying reusable products instead of disposable ones.

RECYCLING is the process by which something is broken or melted down and made into a new product or package. COMPOSTING is a form of recycling.

When students have developed their lists, ask each group to tell the rest of the class their ideas. Write these out on the board under the headings Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Step 4:

Ask students which of the things on their list they would be willing to do.
